Tattoo Application

Laser tattoo removal is an exciting procedure that uses advanced laser technology to break up tattoo ink pigments trapped in the skin. When a tattoo is applied, a needle inserts ink into the dermis, the deepest layer of skin.

Once the ink is embedded, your body’s natural immune system detects it as foreign material and sends phagocytes to remove the ink pigments. Due to the large size of the pigment particles, your body’s immune system is unable to remove them so they remain trapped in the dermis – explaining why tattoos are permanent. Although your immune system is unable to remove the ink pigment on its own, it continuously attempts to do so which is why tattoos fade and lose color over time.

Laser-Skin Interaction

Laser tattoo removal speeds up the natural fading process of tattoos by emitting short bursts of light energy onto the tattooed portion of your skin. The trapped ink pigments absorb the energy and shatter into tiny fragments upon impact. The fragmented ink particles are then small enough for your body’s immune system to carry out its job and flush the pigment particles out of your skin.

Over a series of treatments, our laser technology will continue to assist your immune system by breaking up the remaining ink particles. You will see your tattoo fade more and more after each treatment until it looks like you never had a tattoo to begin with.

Guaranteed Results

No other method is safer or more efficient than laser tattoo removal. Methods like excision, salabrasion, or dermabrasion cause major damage to the skin and almost always result in scarring. Tattoo removal creams are extremely ineffective due to their inability to reach the ink particles trapped in the dermis.

Laser tattoo removal is the only successful, noninvasive method for removing unwanted ink. Our innovative laser can safely penetrate through your skin and selectively remove ink without causing any damage to the surrounding skin tissue. We offer the greatest tattoo removal technology in all of Appleton – if great results are what you’re looking for, call our office today!

Aftercare

Aftercare may be the most important factor of laser tattoo removal. Proper aftercare prevents infection and unwanted side effects from forming and ultimately determines the final outcome of your skin’s appearance. These aftercare instructions are simple to follow and will ensure the best outcome for your skin.

1) Keep the treated area clean and dry during the healing process. Wash the treated area gently with soap and warm water 3 times a day – pat to dry. After cleansing, apply an antibiotic ointment such as Neosporin and cover with a sterile bandage. Doing so will prevent infection from transpiring. Repeat this process for 3 days following a treatment. Bandages may only be needed for the first couple days following your laser treatment.

2) DO NOT interfere with any scabs or blisters that form. Scabbing and blistering is not unusual and is commonly experienced by many patients. It is very important to refrain from picking or popping any of these as this may result in infection or scarring. Blisters will pop naturally over time and when they do, continue to apply antibiotic ointment onto the area for the next 24 hours.

3) If you experience any discomfort or inflammation on the treated area, apply a cold compress 24 hours after receiving laser treatment. Tylenol may also be taken for added comfort, but stay away from Aspirin as it may increase your chances of bruising and/or bleeding.

4) Laser tattoo removal aftercare in appleton wisconsin4) Avoid baths, hot tubs, swimming pools, or any soaking of the treated area. Showers can be taken as long as high-pressure water is not hitting the treated area directly. Pat to dry.

5) Avoid direct sun exposure or tanning of any sort. Cover the treated area accordingly with clothing or bandages to evade chances of skin pigmentation from occurring.

6) Itchiness is a common side effect and can be alleviated with moisturizers such as Aquaphor, Neosporin, or vitamin E ointment.

How many treatments will I need?

Since every tattoo is unique and everyone’s immune system heals differently, there is no way of knowing how many treatments you will need without assessing it in person first. A variety of factors are used to determine the number of treatments you will need, including:

  • Tattoo Age
  • Tattoo Size
  • Colors of Tattoo
  • Location of Tattoo
  • Ink Density
  • Pre-existing Scarring
  • Patient’s Health

Most patients need between 5 to 10 treatments before seeing complete removal whereas smaller tattoos may only need 3 to 4 treatments. Your body’s immune system plays a pivotal role in how fast your tattoo fades. Maintaining a healthy immune system will greatly increase your chances of needing fewer treatments.

How long before I see complete removal of my tattoo?

Laser tattoo removal is a lengthy process that requires time and commitment. Multiple treatments are necessary in order to achieve complete removal. A minimum of 6 to 8 weeks is scheduled between each session to give your skin enough time to heal before receiving another treatment. This is for your safety and your skin’s safety. Since everyone heals at different rates, you may experience complete removal in a few months while others may take a year – it all depends on various factors of your tattoo. Our Duality laser is capable of eliminating ink faster than traditional lasers and can give you complete clearance in as few treatments possible.

Does the procedure hurt?

Everyone has a certain pain threshold and will react differently to our laser. However, one thing is for certain – if you can have sit through getting a tattoo, you can definitely tolerate having one removed. Many patients have described the procedure as having a rubber band snapped against the skin. Fortunately, laser tattoo removal treatments last anywhere from 1 to 20 minutes and go by very quickly.

Can you fade my tattoo in preparation for a cover up?

Yes! Wisconsin Laser Tattoo removal has the capabilities to do just that and more. We can fade tattoos for cover-ups, remove specific parts of a tattoo (such as an ex-lover’s name), and remove a tattoo to completion.

A tattoo cover-up is another method for dealing with unwanted tattoos. However, many tattoo artists find it difficult to cover-up dark or heavily pigmented tattoos and end up using much more ink trying to hide the original tattoo. Laser tattoo removal is the perfect solution for lightening an existing tattoo in preparation for a cover-up. It will also give your tattoo artist much more flexibility with the new design!

How much does laser tattoo removal cost?

Wisconsin Laser Center offers affordable pricing quotes starting at just $109! We base our prices on the size of the tattoo being treated. One of our expert staff members can give you a more detailed quote during your free consultation. Visit our pricing page for more information on special discounts.

Are there any side effects?

The most common side effects that patients experience are temporary redness, swelling, blistering, and scabbing. All of these are telling signs that your body is reacting well to the treatment and is working to remove the ink from your skin. Even more, all of these side effects are temporary and will go away with proper aftercare and time.

Patients with darker skin tone are more likely to experience some temporary discoloration of the skin. Our Duality features square spot technology for minimized treatment overlap and lower risk of side effects for patients with darker skin tones. Visit our aftercare page for tips on how to properly care for your tattoo after treatment.
