One of the most important aspects of laser tattoo removal is following the proper aftercare instructions. We provide each client with a short list of things to do and avoid doing after each tattoo removal laser treatment.

One of the common concerns following the laser treatment – especially in summer months – is whether or not swimming or soaking the water is permissible. We do not recommend it, and here is why.

After the laser tattoo removal procedure it is possible for blisters or scabs to appear. This is part of the natural healing process, but if a scab is softened and removed by water or water play, it can increase the risk of infection. Infections in a laser treated area are no more common than any typical wound, but it is always best to use caution for a few days to prevent an unwanted infection.Showering for the few days after the procedure is quite alright, just take it easy and be sure not to scrub the area. Swimming in a potentially unclean body of water – lake, river, swimming pool, or hot tub – is not advised until the treated area is full healed, usually by the fourth day.

Also, if being in a pool or lake means exposure to the sun, make sure to cover the treated area as it will heal more flawlessly with protection.
